London – Center of Celebworld?

October 2, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Now that Spotted! is getting bigger and bigger and moving outside of London I wondered if Londoners have an unfair advantage. I would say not as much as you think. I think it really depends on whether you have your eyes open and have your Celebdar switched on. I thought I would do pretty well at this but most of my encounters tend to be direct contact with a Celeb which happens through work or whatever, which counts but doesn’t have that spontaneous glow – loads of people are uploading spots of people they just happened to have seen out and about. Which I suppose is kinda of the point. H from Steps on a train, Keely Hawes in a toilet, Terry Waite at fete in Suffolk? So I need to switch on my Celebdar, tune it up and get on it. Sigh.

Celebrity Envy: A new Spotted! disease

September 29, 2008 · 1 Comment

Up to now, I have been mildly jealous of a few spots here and there, but I have felt that I could hold my own. However after recently reeling in a friend of mine who works in the media/fashion industry he has very sweetly and shamlessly uploaded a whole load of celebs which are enough to make the whole leaderboard tremble. Now Kate Moss, is pretty impressive, but Carla Bruni? For heaven’s sake. And Mohamed Al Fayed at a dog show, unsurpassable. However Mel who I work with still managed to pick up Alexander Armstrong on the way to the office. Whilst on the subject of comedians, Claire has phoned in a spot Kevin Bishop (Fat Pig) about which I am thinking of calling a point of order, if she’s too busy relaxing on her day off to upload an encounter then quite frankly you snooze you lose. I notice too that Cesc Fabregas has been spotted, I realise now I am going to have to brush up my football skills.

The Spots are Hot!

September 26, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Reports are coming about quite how addictive spotting celebrities can be. All it takes is a quiet five minutes and you can come up with a few old warhorses that you had forgotten that had ever crossed your path. Although you might say that old spots are not worth putting up – I think that each one has a place on your Spotted! profile and although seeing that tired old soap star at the stage door of the Croydon panto isn’t the height of glamour – it’s always worth a mention, particularly when you consider everyone else seems to putting up any old lame trouper and their dog. I am still wandering around Soho glaring at poor unsuspecting shop assistants thinking I know them from somewhere, whilst they are wondering why is that strange woman staring so and if it’s because they have been short changing customers. Good news to see lots of new spots are coming in, Busta Rhymes – genius!

Primrose Hill – Celeb Fest

September 22, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Living close to Camden and Primrose Hill I could be forgiven for assuming that I would be overrun at the weekend with London’s Glitterati rushing past me as I wander through Camden Town and scale the heights of Primrose Hill. Scouting for spots in Camden on Friday evening drew a big blank, although I fear I was out and about a bit too early, 6pm in the evening I assume most Camden Celeb’s are still on the phone to their publicists trying to decide whether they should wind up in the Marathon Bar or the gutter, thinking about it – those two are very similar. Amy Winehouse was not in evidence, drunk, raging or even doing a spot of shopping  in M&S – gutted. I tried Primrose Hill on Saturday and Sunday, the weather being beautiful, it was just perfect for topping up St Tropez tans, but to no avail. There were a few small crowds gathered and on closer inspection no sign of C or even Z list, just some misty eyed converts sharing the Good News. Bad news for me.

I note in my friend network a couple of handy spots. Mel did well with Ridley Scott, although I must confess I might walk past him and Jo G tip top with Gail Porter, surely I couldn’t miss her. So I like to think this is  a new week, new start. I will prevail!

Starry Night of Top Spots

September 19, 2008 · Leave a Comment

So another day passes when my co-spotters appear to spot every A-Z list celebrity in Soho. Although techincally I see them too it seems a bit cheaty to claim them as my own. And strictly speaking if I am honest, I haven’t really got a clue who they are. So last night we were at a glittering party for a glittering Sound Studio. Before we went we knew Jazzy B was DJ-ing so that was a definte spot. Unfotunately spotting some random guy who was dj-ing (not Jazzy anyone) has done nothing for my score, Jazzy B came on after I left. Sigh. There was the guy from Peep Show there too, but I didn’t have clue, he was just one more person between me and the bar. This morning I had trouble recognising myself in the bathroom mirror, so I think the liklihood of bagging a couple of celebs today is not high.

Agyness Deyn in Kentish Town

September 18, 2008 · Leave a Comment

So I am walking down the road from my house this morning to the Tube and think OMG that’s Agyness Deyn walking in front of me. What the hell she doing in Kentish Town? And then I thought hold on, isn’t she in New York, or somewhere more interesting (although I think she has complimented KT on its ‘Vintage’ clothes shops)? Anyways, it wasnt’ her, it was someone with a dodgy blonde barnet. I am now completely obsessed with beating Claire T’s Josh Harnett. I see today Active Users are up to 81 – not quite the millions we are hoping for BUT it’s a start and the app hasn’t had its big push yet. Now where’s my number for the The Ivy, surely a quick lunch over there will sort it?

Get Spotted! Has got started.

September 17, 2008 · Leave a Comment

So here I am at my desk trying to do some very important work but keeping half an eye on all the people who walk past my window, in Broadwick Street, Soho, London. I have been developing the Spotted! Facebook App with Nudge over the last few months and it’s up and live with admittedly a few little bugs left to be ironed out but it’s completely brilliant. To get the full experience either search Facebook applications or you can use this link http://becomeafan.com/spotted

Now down to the real business, after glimpsing Vic Reeves out my window the day before yesterday buying records in our local record shop my celebrity encounters have been somewhat lacking. HOWEVER, the ladies I work with have racked up an impressive list, with big respect to Claire for bagging Ian Lindsay (yes quite, apparently he played George in MenBehaving Badly) although she completely lucked out with big winner Josh Hartnet in the hairdressers at lunchtime today, short a bit longer on top she says, his hair that is. Mel also doing very well, with Sally Philips from Smack the Pony. Good God! Hold on a minute I saw Charles Dance last night – ahem. Actually he’s one of my neighbours so I see him all the time.

Inga hasn’t spotted anyone recently as she’s just got back from Bulgaria so apart from a Seventies Womble it seems unlikely that any of us will appreciate her sightings, even if she did recognise the major love interest from Bulgaria’s top hospital soap. Rich here is absolutely hopeless, I am not entirely sure he would recognise Paris Hilton if she came into our office and sat on his desk, but now he has a FB profile and is on Spotted! he will no doubt be hanging out the window and hollering “Quick everyone – it’s Sue Pollard” before you can say errr… Sue Pollard.
